What is Get Sharing?

Get Sharing is the number one website for people to find things to do with friends old and new. It is a social networking website that allows people to connect instantly with their friends and other people who are looking for similar things to do. Add an update to Get Sharing and anybody who is following you will immediately see what you are wanting to do, or what you are definitely going to do. They can choose to join this update if required. Additionally, by adding a few extra details you can enable anybody searching to find your update - and join you.

Why is so much detail required at registration?

We have chosen to collect all the required information in one form, rather than continuing to ask for extra information before allowing you full access to the site. We need the information contained in this form to offer you the best service, the highest level of security and access to all the features that the site contains.

I am concerned about security settings on Get Sharing. How can I change them?

In your Account Options you have the ability to change multiple security settings. You can change 1) Whether people have to be following you to see your profile page, 2) Whether you want to approve all requests to follow you and 3) Whether you want to approve all requests to join your updates. By carefully choosing these settings you can make your account as secure as you would like it to be.

What is the Security Question and why do I need one?

We ask for an answer to a chosen Security Question to add further security to the site. This is used when you wish to change your password, when you wish to delete your account or when you need your password emailing to you. Be sure that you remember the answer that you have given!

How do I make my update searchable by address or postcode?

This is achieved through the "Extra Information" option available on all updates that you have created. By editing extra information and adding a category, a date and an address or postcode your event will then be viewable by people who are searching for things to do near you.

How do I find people to follow?

There are numerous ways to achieve this. If you know their name then you can simply choose "find friends and people I know" in the search box at the top of each page, enter their name and click search. If you select Advanced Search then you can narrow these results by location. If you simply want to find people who enjoy similar things to yourself, we suggest using Advanced Search, selecting a category and typing in your postcode - this will bring up things to do in your area. You can choose to follow anybody who is into the same things that you are.

How can I see updates that I have previously added to the site?

You will notice that there is an option for "Profile/History" at the top of each page once you have logged in. By clicking on this you will be able to see your profile page in much the same way as any other user will be able to view it. However you will also have access to extra options such as editing additional information and messaging all members who have joined a particular update.

Why do I get so many emails from Get Sharing?

By default, you will get an email every time that somebody joins one of your updates, adds a comment to your update or sends you a message. All of these can be controlled through your account settings, by clicking on "Account" and then "Notification Options"

I don't want just anybody to join my updates. How can I choose who I want?

There are two ways to achieve this. The first option is to change it for each update you add using the "Extra Information" option - you will see that there is an option to authorise all requests to join this update. Alternatively you can choose to change this setting for all updates that you add to the site - simply select "Account" at the top of the page, choose "Security Settings" and then change the last option - "I want to approve requests to join my updates".

I've forgotten my password! What should I do?

Simply follow the links on the login screen. We will ask you for your email address and the answer to your security question. Once you have completed these we will email your password to you automatically.

How can I contact people who have joined my update?

Under each update (both your most recent on your home page and all updates you have created on your profile/history page) you will notice a link to "Message All Members" if people have joined this update. By selecting this you can automatically send a message to everybody who has joined one of your updates.

Why won't my picture upload correctly?

We currently only allow pictures with a maximum size of 1MB to be uploaded to our server. This is to ensure that the site keeps running at optimum speed for all our users. We are planning to increase this allowance in the near future.

I think that somebody knows my password. What should I do?

You can change your password by going into "Account" at the top of each page and then selecting "Account Maintenance". You can then follow the link to change your password. Note that you will need to know the answer to your security question.

Why can't I change my screen name or Date of Birth?

We lock the date of birth to avoid people attempting to cheat the system that prevents people under 16 from joining the site. Please contact us if it is truly incorrect. The screen name is used in the file system on our servers - we are currently unable to change this but may explore this in the future.
